Miry Canvas, Mixed Palette: Naturally Warm
Cool blues and mossy greens spread across the canvas, as Autumn Fouquette brushes each compelling shape. Inspired by nature—flowers, mushrooms, trees, and stars—Autumn reimagines each shape in her prints, first with bold lines in India ink, then with the tendrils of paint emanating from her brush.
Autumn’s art is most often abstract. “I discovered water colors in high school,” she says. “That’s when I found my passion.” The Litchfield-based artist starts with India ink, a distinctive ink that creates bold, clean lines. “India ink is extremely pigmented and waterproof once it dries,” Autumn explains. “That makes it really useful for watercolor work—it won’t bleed or run when the water-based paints are applied.”
Autumn will be bringing original prints and framed pieces to the Starbuck Vintage & Artisan Market. Her work is also featured on decorative pillows, a collaboration with her mother Cyndi Fouquette. “The cool colors lend themselves nicely to pictures of lakes,” Autumn says. "Of course, the lakes are done in a more realistic style rather than abstract, but there is still play happening on the canvas." The mixed media of India ink, water colors, and cotton canvas create an appealing textural combination. Autumn showcases her work on Instagram, using the handle @autumnfouquette.
